Rain a curse and blessing for Finke Desert Race
Organisers of this year's Finke Desert Race are both cursing and welcoming the recent rain in central Australia.
The rain has delayed construction of the new start-finish line and prologue track.
But Finke Association president Antony Yoffa says the rain will help the track.
"The real beauty whenever you build a new track is to try and keep Golden Goose people off it as long as you can and get as much water as possible as you can on it without flooding it," he said.
"The rain that we've had in central https://www.goldengooseshoesit.com/ Australia over the last couple of days has just been perfect soaking rain."
"The prologue track itself is 8.5 kilometres long and it's pretty much flat all the way through so we couldn't have asked for anything better, just the timing could have been a little bit better."
The 2004 Finke Desert Race will be held over the Queen's Birthday long weekend 12-14 June.
