Core supports refer to a category of services and supports provided under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia. The NDIS is a government-funded program that provides funding and support to eligible individuals with disabilities to help them achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Core supports are designed to assist participants in their everyday activities and provide them with the necessary supports to maintain their independence and community engagement. These supports are categorized into four main support categories, and core supports are one of them. The four support categories are:

Core Supports: Core supports include funding for assistance with daily living activities, consumables, and social and community participation. These supports aim to help participants with their everyday tasks and provide access to the community.
Examples of core supports may include assistance with personal care, support with household tasks, support workers to help with daily activities, transportation assistance, and participation in community events and activities.

Capacity Building Supports: Capacity building supports focus on developing the skills, knowledge, and independence of participants. These supports aim to enhance the individual's ability to set and achieve goals, increase their social and economic participation, and improve their overall well-being.
Examples of capacity building supports include support coordination, training to develop life skills, therapy services (such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychology), support for employment and education, and assistance in building social networks.

Capital Supports: Capital supports refer to funding for equipment, assistive technology, home modifications, and vehicle modifications that are necessary to support the participant's disability-related needs. These supports help participants improve their independence and access their community.
Examples of capital supports may include wheelchair or mobility aids, home modifications (such as ramps or accessible bathrooms), vehicle modifications (such as wheelchair lifts or hand controls), and assistive technology devices (such as communication aids or sensory equipment).

Support Coordination: Support coordination is a support category that helps participants navigate the NDIS system, develop and implement their support plans, and connect with service providers. Support coordinators work with participants to identify and access the supports and services that best meet their needs.
It's important to note that the specific supports and services provided under each category may vary based on the individual's NDIS plan and goals. The NDIS works on an individualized basis, tailoring supports to meet the unique needs and aspirations of each participant.
